How to install apps on a BYD (APK guide)

The BYD head unit runs Android but has no Google Play. Apps such as Yoldaş are installed from an APK file. Which method works depends on your car's software version.

The phone app needs no store: open app.yoldas.io on your phone and add it to the home screen.

What we tested ourselves

We installed Yoldaş on our own BYD Seal (DiLink 3, Android 10, software 13.1.33.2606100.1) from a computer over ADB. The other methods below are reported by BYD owners and may not work on every car or software version.

Method 1: open the APK on the head unit

  1. Get the file onto the car

Download it with the car's browser, or copy it to a USB stick and plug it in.

  2. Open it

Tap the APK in the car's file manager.

  3. Allow the install

If asked, allow installs from unknown sources, then tap Install.

Owners report that build 2310 closed USB installs and builds 2505/2506 added an allow-list. On those builds the install may be refused; use method 2.

Method 2: install from a computer with ADB

  1. Enable developer options

The menu location varies by software version. Turn on USB debugging and network debugging.

  2. Connect

Run adb connect CAR-IP:5555 on the computer and accept the prompt on the car screen.

  3. Install

Run adb install -r downloaded-file.apk and wait for "Success".

After installing

  • Grant camera and audio permissions only if you need them.
  • In Yoldaş, open System › Background operation and allow it to run without battery restrictions and to start automatically.
  • Pair your phone by scanning the QR code shown on the car screen.
Warranty and risk

Installing an APK does not change the car's system software, and Yoldaş can be removed like any app. Dealers give different answers on warranty, so ask yours. Downgrading the software is a different, riskier step that we do not recommend.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to downgrade my BYD software?

Not for Yoldaş. We run it on a BYD Seal with software 13.1.33.2606100.1, one of the newest builds. If the head unit blocks APK installs, installing from a computer over ADB is safer than downgrading.

Does a BYD update remove installed apps?

Owners report that some updates remove apps installed afterwards. If that happens, install Yoldaş again and pair your phone again.

How does Yoldaş update itself?

It downloads new versions on Wi-Fi, checks the signature and SHA-256 hash, and asks you to tap Install once while the car is in P.
